Chirk Cemetery
Chirk has one Cemetery which is owned and run by Chirk Town Council. To enquire about Cemetery reservations please contact the Clerk or Deputy Clerk by email: info@chirktowncouncil.org.uk
Chirk also has a Church graveyard which is owned and run by St Mary's Church. Chirk Town Council do not hold any records for the Church graveyard and all queries should be made directly to the Church.

CHIRK CEMETERY
Table of Fees from 1st May 2023
The fees, payments and sums shown below as applying to inhabitants, apply where the person to be interred or in respect of whom the right of burial is granted, or immediately before death was an inhabitant of the Community of Chirk or, in the case of a stillborn child, where the parents are or at the time of interment were such inhabitants of the community of Chirk.
Inhabitant fee rates may be applied as follows and that this decision be at the discretion of the Council.
- Former inhabitants of Chirk who have moved away to seek care or treatment for a condition that is not available in Chirk.
- Someone who has moved out of Chirk to live with or near relatives for care no longer than four years prior to death, with the exception of exceptional circumstances which will be determined by the officer.
In all other cases, the fees, payments and sums will be as for non-inhabitants.
PART 1. EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS OF BURIAL FOR 99 YEARS INCLUDING DEED OF GRANT
a. in an earthen grave 9 feet by 4 feet £255.00
b. in an earthen grave 9 feet by 8 feet £500.00
c. for cremated remains in earthen grave 2 feet by 2 feet £170.00
d. in a walled grave 9 feet by 4 feet £500.00
e. in a walled grave 9 feet by 8 feet £995.00
PART 2. INTERMENTS
The fees indicated for the various heads:
- a. do not include the digging or bricking of the grave.
- b. apply only where the interment is made between 9am and 4pm on a weekday or on the certificate of a Coroner or Registered Medical Practitioner that immediate interment is necessary.
For the interment
i of a body of a child whose age at the time of death did not exceed 17 years £0.00
ii of a body of a person whose age at the time of death exceeded 17 years £170.00
iii of cremated remains of a child whose age at the time of death did not
exceed 17 years £0.00
iv of cremated remains whose age at the time of death exceeded 17 years £145.00
PART 3. MONUMENTS
For the right to erect or place on a grave in respect of which an Exclusive Right
of Burial has been granted –
A Headstone or a Stone Cross not exceeding 3 feet in height £170.00
A Cremation Tablet 12 inched by 12 inches (12 inches by 18 inches having
integral flower container) £170.00
Additional lettering and reinstatement £140.00
(the grave number must be inscribed on the Headstone/ Tablet that must be installed in accordance with NAMM regulations)
THE FEES FOR NON INHABITANTS OF THE COMMUNITY OF CHIRK ARE TRIPLE THE FEES TO INHABITANTS

Council Conditions - Memorial Tablet
1. Memorial tablets will be permitted on application.
It is usual practice for the Stonemason of your choice to make application to the Council with the appropriate fee for placing a Memorial Tablet giving details of design and inscription. Written permission is given to the Stonemason who will make arrangements with you when the tablet is ready to be placed on the site.
2. The Tablet must be 12 inches by 12 inches and laid 1 inch below ground level. One flower container (preferably stone/marble) not larger than 6 inches by 12 inches will be allowed to be placed at the top of the Tablet.
If preferred, the Tablet can be 18 inches long by 12 inches wide with an integral flower container on the top (West) side.
Please note: Kerbstones, decorative railings/fences or any other type of surround will not be permitted.
3. You will be responsible for the care and safe condition and maintenance of the tablet and the flower container.
4. The Council wishes to keep the Cemetery in a tidy condition and though some grass cutting and other maintenance is carried out by the Council it is expected that each plot will be looked after and tended individually.
5. The Council accepts no responsibility for the Memorial Tablet an/or flower container and reserves the right to remove them should they become damaged and/or a danger to other persons.

Council Conditions - Memorial Headstone
1. Memorial Headstones will be permitted on application.
It is usual practice for the Stonemason of your choice to make application to the Council with the appropriate fee for placing a Memorial Headstone giving details of design and inscription. Written permission is given to the Stonemason who will make arrangements with you when the Headstone is ready to be placed on the site. This will not be within six months of the interment. (The erection of the memorial must be in accordance with the latest edition NAMM Code of Working Practice).
2. The Headstone or Stone Cross must not be more than 3 feet in height. These are the only memorials that are allowed.Wooden Crosses, kerbstones, decorative fencing or any other type of surround are not permitted.
3. The headstone will remain your responsibility to maintain in a safe condition so as not to become a hazard to other persons.
4. The Council wishes to keep the Cemetery in a tidy condition and though some grass cutting and other maintenance is carried out by the Council it is expected that each plot will be looked after and tended individually.
